For over thirty years, the racing series Škoda Swiss Bike Cup has placed a strong focus on the promotion of young talent in cycling. For the first time, a cycling criterium will be held within this framework. Numerous athletes aiming for a professional career in cycling will start at the GP Osterhas. Particularly pleasing is the participation of Linda Indergand (Liv Factory Racing). The current Swiss cross-country champion and Olympic bronze medalist from Tokyo is a regular participant in the Škoda Swiss Bike Cup and won the overall series in 2021 and 2023. In 2024, the Uri native finished the GP Osterhas in third place.
MTB U23 Swiss champion Lea Huber starts with Nexetis Team in Affoltern am Albis
In 2025, Swiss Cycling founded the Continental Team Nexetis to support talented young female riders on their way to professional cycling. One of the riders in the colorful Nexetis jersey is Lea Huber. The Aargau native secured the title of U23 XCO Swiss Champion in Echallens in 2024, which was held as part of the Swiss Bike Cup. Now she is also increasingly participating in road races.
Together with Lea Huber, Anina Hutter will also compete for points for the newly founded Swiss cycling team at the GP Osterhas. Hutter won the U19 XCO Swiss Championship title in 2023 and achieved an excellent third place at the U23 XCO European Championships in Rome in 2024. Whether the two young talents will be able to hold their own against the experienced field of riders on the streets of Affoltern am Albis remains to be seen with excitement.
Last year’s winner Andreas Mayr competes for a third victory
The previous year’s winner of the GP Osterhas, Andreas Mayr (RSC AUTO BROSCH Kempten), will also start in the 44th edition in Affoltern am Albis. He will be challenged by Urs Huber (Team Bulls) from Mettmenstetten, a member of the organizing club RRC-Amt. Huber has already won the MTB marathon Swiss championship title five times. In his youth, Huber also competed in races held as part of the Swiss Bike Cup.
Participants from over ten nations will start at the GP Osterhas. The elite races will be held over 100 laps on a course just under 1 km long.
Integration of GP Osterhas in the Škoda Swiss Bike Cup makes sense — Bruno Diethelm
Bruno Diethelm, former MTB national coach, is also positive about the integration of GP Osterhas in the Škoda Swiss Bike Cup:
“For me, it makes perfect sense to include a criterion in the Škoda Swiss Bike Cup calendar. Bike races are becoming ever faster and more intensive, and the power density is constantly increasing — as a result, riders are getting into positional battles more and more often. It is precisely such situations that can be trained excellently in one criterion. You don't have to be a road rider, but taking part in a road race every now and then is good for every biker. It broadens your horizons and has features that you don't have when biking. In particular, the high speed on the road can be very valuable for bikers.”
In the current season, Diethelm is supervising Thömus Maxon's team, which includes MTB stars Mathias Flückiger and Lars Forster. In preparation for the 2025 MTB season, they took part in numerous road races in spring.
